Insurance Resources & Tools
A curated collection of tools and official resources to help you research, compare, and understand your insurance options.
Official Government Resources
These are authoritative sources you can trust for regulatory and consumer protection information.
National Association of Insurance Commissioners (NAIC) → naic.org — Find your state's insurance regulator, check company complaint ratios, and access consumer guides.
USA.gov Insurance Resources → usa.gov/insurance — Overview of insurance types and links to state regulators.
Healthcare.gov → healthcare.gov — Official health insurance marketplace for ACA plans. Use during open enrollment (November 1 – January 15).
Medicare.gov → medicare.gov — Official Medicare information for those 65 and older or with qualifying disabilities.
Benefits.gov → benefits.gov — Find federal and state benefit programs including CHIP for children's health coverage.
Check Before You Buy
AM Best — Insurance Company Ratings → ambest.com — Look up financial strength ratings for insurance carriers. Stick with A- or better for long-term coverage needs.
NAIC Consumer Insurance Search → eapps.naic.org — Look up complaint ratios, licensing status, and company information.
Your State Insurance Department → Search "[Your State] Department of Insurance" — File complaints, look up agent licenses, and find rate comparison tools specific to your state.
Comparison Resources
Auto Insurance: The best way to compare auto quotes is to get at least 3 quotes with identical coverage levels. Use each company's website directly or compare through aggregators — just make sure you're comparing apples to apples on deductibles and coverage limits.
Life Insurance: Term4Sale and Term4Life are no-commission tools that let you compare term life quotes without an agent.
Health Insurance: Use healthcare.gov or your state exchange during open enrollment. Outside of open enrollment, compare short-term options carefully — they often have significant coverage gaps.
