About FinCalc
We build financial calculators that actually explain themselves — not just black-box number crunchers, but tools that help you understand the math behind your money.
Why We Built This
Most financial calculators on the web give you an answer and nothing else. You plug in a number and get a number out, with no explanation of what it means, why the formula works the way it does, or what happens if your inputs change by 1%.
We think that's a missed opportunity. When you understand the math — not just the result — you make better decisions. You stop worrying about whether a calculator is “right” and start understanding why your mortgage payment is what it is.
Every FinCalc calculator includes plain-English explanations, worked examples, and answers to the questions people actually Google after getting a result.
Our Commitment to Accuracy
All calculations are based on standard financial formulas used by lenders, the IRS, and actuarial tables. We document our formulas, note any simplifying assumptions, and update calculators whenever tax tables or regulations change.
That said, our calculators are estimates. Real-world results depend on factors we can't capture — your specific credit profile, exact tax situation, local rates, and more. We always recommend verifying important calculations with a qualified professional. See our Terms of Service for the full disclaimer.
Privacy — Your Numbers Stay Yours
Every calculation runs entirely in your browser. We don't log your inputs, we don't store results, and we don't sell your data. There's nothing to sell because we never see it. See our Privacy Policy for details.
About the Author
Jordan Hayes, MBA
Personal Finance Writer & Analyst
Jordan has spent over a decade working in personal finance — first as a financial analyst at a regional bank, then as a writer and educator helping everyday people understand the math behind their most important financial decisions. He holds an MBA in Finance and is a regular contributor to several personal finance publications.
Jordan built FinCalc because he kept running into the same problem: great calculators that explained nothing, or thorough explanations with no usable tool. FinCalc is his attempt to combine both.
